Out of the Clear, Blue Sky March 29, 2011

Sandstorm rolls into Mahboula.

A massive sandstorm blew through Kuwait Friday, March 25, around 6pm.

The storm originated in Southern Iraq, and moved through Qatar, Bahrain, UAE, and Saudi Arabia.

Although the storm seemed to come out of the clear, blue sky, many people received news and text message warnings about it beforehand. However, most people didn’t think much of these warnings. In fact, many people continued driving to their planned destination, such as the mall or a restaurant, even as they saw the storm approaching.

Those who were home were lucky. Many people spend hours trapped in their cars or away from home, unable to leave their location due to the nearly complete sand storm black out.

The storm lasted for a few hours, but many people are still cleaning up the mess it left behind.

IDIOMS:  The idiom out of the clear, blue, sky means “suddenly” or “out of nowhere.”

COMMENT: What’s your sand storm story? Tell about how you experienced the Kuwait sand storm, 2011. OR, use the idiom out of the clear, blue sky to describe something that has happened to you.
